The working group 'information management' is part of the research group 'communicative figurations of mediatized worlds' at the University of Bremen.

Our work focuses on the change of organizations as part of the ongoing mediatization and the way data and information are dealt with consequentially. Our findings are predominantly applied in the context of public administration, as well as in schools and in higher education. Our research relates to theoretical approaches to mediatization on the one hand, and to organizational sociology on the other.

Design-oriented approach

We have adopted a design-oriented approach, which means that not the technology, but the requirements of the field of application are at the center of our work. Besides professional IT skills, this also requires knowledge about the respective organizations. That includes business process management, IT governance, and IT service management. Furthermore, we focus on developments within educational institutions and address questions of media education, competence modeling, and the usage of information systems for data-driven decision-making processes in educational contexts.

Teaching and Consulting

The aspects mentioned above are also reflected in our classes and in the final papers submitted by our students.

We interlink research and teaching and also exploit our findings for consulting services. For this purpose, we cooperate closely with the Institute for Information Management Bremen GmbH (ifib), a private research institute attached to the University of Bremen.
