Welcome to the virtual seminar!

Imagine the following scenario: You plan to attend a course on the topic of smart cities which deals with the questions of how cities can be made more efficient, more connected, more ecological or more socially inclusive. How would you like this course to look like? Which aspects would motivate you as a student to become engaged with the topic of smart cities? Would it be a classroom course, a virtual one, would it include interactive elements, field studies, …? In this virtual seminar on the future of Information Systems education you will decide how the perfect teaching on smart cities looks like.

The virtual seminar is a seminar jointly organised by the University of Münster, the University of Twente in the Netherlands and the University of Bremen. Together with 2-3 students from the other participating institutions, you will work in a virtual team with the task to design a lecture for the topic of smart cities. Together with your team members your tasks will be to:

  • Set up the collaboration within your virtual team according to your collaboration needs
  • Design one lecture which includes all the content and material
  • Summarise your lecture in a 12-page seminar thesis
  • Present your ideas in a final presentation

The seminar will start in the beginning of October and be finished before Christmas with the final presentation taking place middle of December.

The learning outcomes are:

  • Intercultural competences
  • International experience
  • Virtual collaboration
  • Overview of different teaching formats and concepts
  • Topical knowledge of smart cities

The number of participants is limited to 6 students from each participant university. Since you will be working in teams, your team members are dependent on your contribution. Therefore, when choosing this course, please be aware that we rely on your participation. If you would like to take part in the virtual seminar, please contact sara.hofmann[at]
